Southern Local Jr./Sr. High School was awarded a $1,134,000.00 School Improvement Grant for the 2012-13 school year. This is the 2nd year they have been awarded these funds. The first year of the grant produced positive results academically and environmentally at the Jr./Sr. High. The staff worked very hard in making the necessary changes in curriculum, instruction and assessments, along with recreating the educational environment at SL. The changes will be carried into the 2012-13 school year and continued growth is expected.

The 2012-13 grant will fund the following programs: Renaissance Learning (Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, Successful Reader, Math Facts in a Flash, Benchmarking and Progress monitoring), Project More, Intervention Tutors, ISS Monitor, School and Home Officer, Night School, Professional Development for Staff, Community Activities and Events, Books, Books and More Books.
