Southern Send Off
Southern Local Elementary students give high school freshman female grappler Katie Harshbarger a big send off as she heads to the Ohio Wrestling Coaches Association Girls’ State Wrestling Tournament at Hilliard Davidson High School. Students created banners and handed her homemade signs of well wishes to support her on her journey. Harshbarger is the first female Southern wrestler to head to state and first person to wrestle for the school. She will perform in the 190-lb. weight class and follow up her 8-2 record and fourth-place finish at the districts. The daughter of Justin and Susan Harshbarger of Wellsville, she has wrestled for two years for Southern and follows the footsteps of older brother Austin, who is a senior at SLHS. A high school assembly was also held while the Highlandtown Volunteer Fire Department escorted her out of town.
