Hall of  Fame Inductees

George Whittaker, Coach

George Whittaker was inducted into the Southern Local Hall of Fame as a coach. After coaching in a number of other venues - George came to Southern Local and was head basketball coach for fifteen years. From 2000-2015, Coach Whittaker accumulated a record of 179 wins and 152 losses. He coached 331 games and had a win percentage of 54.1%. Over the fifteen years, Coach Whittaker's teams won three sectional championships. The 2010-2011 team has the best regular season record in the school history with 17 wins and 3 losses. For his expertise during that season, Coach Whittaker was named the Morning Journal Coach of the Year, the Columbiana County Coach of the Year and CO-Coach of the Year for Division IV in the state of Ohio.

Cory Leek, Athlete

Cory Leek was inducted into the Southern Local Hall of Fame as a one sport, three varsity letter winner athlete. Cory was very successful playing basketball at Southern Local. In 1995, Cory received the Sixth Man Award. In 1996, Cory was awarded SL MVP and Columbiana County All-Star MVP Blue Team. In addition Cory received 2nd Team TCL, 23nd Team NE Inland District, 1st Team Morning Journal and 1st Team Evening Review and Player of the Week. Cory was the team leader in points with 19.7 points per game and was second in Columbiana County is scoring for the '96 season. He was also team leader in steals, assists, field goal %, Free throw %, and 3 point shots made and percentage. Cory was the only player ing the county to score in double digits in every game in the 1996 season.

Deanna Sell, Athlete

Deanna Sell was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a two sport eight varsity letter athlete. A four year letter winner in volleyball, Deanna had the following statistics: the record for sets with 3205, 288 points with 52 aces and 318 spikes with 99 kills. Deanna received the following awards: 2nd teams TCL, and District I and Honorable Mention All-County for three years. During her tenure on the team, they won three sectional titles, one District  Title and were Regional Runner-up.

Deanna was also a four year letter winner in basketball. Deanna's sophomore, the team won a sectional title. Deanna was second in steals and fourth in rebounding. Her junior year, she led in assists with 65 and had a 75% free throw percentage. Senior year, Deanna averaged 42 assists, 3.4 steals and 3.5 points per game. Deanna received Honorable Mention All-County and the Coach's Award.

Tyler Baker, Athlete

Tyler Baker was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a four letter athlete. Tyler earned three letters in basketball while compiling the following: most points in as single season (school record); 24 points per game his senior year (led the county); and leading the team to a school record most wins in a single season. Awards Tyler received were: 1st Team both Evening Review and Morning Journal, 1st Team ITCL, All-County and NE Inland District, and Special Mention All-State.

Tyler earned his varsity letter his junior year in Golf. Tyler helped set the school record for Low Team Score and Most Wins in a single season. The awards Tyler received were Honorable Mention in both the ITCL and County.

Jacob "Jake" Boyle, Athlete

Jacob "Jake" Boyle was inducted into the Hall of Fame as an athlete holding four varsity letters. Jake earned 3 of his varsity letters in basketball. Jake scored 925 career points in basketball. In his junior year, Jake averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game. His senior year, he averaged 17.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Jakes honors include: East Liverpool Review Pre-Season All-Area Fab Five, 1st Team All-County both junior and senior year, NE Inland District 2nd Team, Honorable Mention All-State, Ohio Postseason 3 point contest, County All-Star Game participant and Co-MVP of his team.

Jake's fourth varsity letter was earned in football. Jake only played football one season. As quarterback, Jake led the team to participate in a playoff game, the first Southern Local team to do so. He passes for 1042 yards, 16 regular season touchdown passes (a school record at the time) and two post season touchdown passes. Jake threw five touchdowns in one game - a Southern Local record. He was selected as 1st Team ITCL and to participate in the Penn-Ohio All Star Game.
