2005 Hall of Fame Inductees

Bob Burns, Athlete (Class of 1956)

Bob lettered in both football and basketball at Salineville High School. He was a member of the Six Man football team that won the Eastern Ohio Six Man Football Championship. Bob was also the voice of the Indian football for 10 years.

Stephanie Crawford, Athlete (Class of 1995)

Stephanie Crawford played volleyball, basketball and ran track earning 12 varsity letters in four years. Stephanie holds the distinction of being the only Southern Local athlete to ever achieve that. Stephanie holds records in all three of her sports - most spikes, kills and aces in volleyball; most rebounds and steals in a season and rebounds in a career in basketball; and 100 and 300 meter hurdles in track. She received All State honors in both volleyball and basketball and played in the All Ohio All Star volleyball game her senior year.

Jeff Faloba, Athlete (Class of 1972)

The only sport Jeff played in high school was basketball. Jeff lettered in his junior and senior year and was named MVP, Evening Review Best Offensive Player, All Buckeye Border Conference, and All State his senior year. Jeff still holds the school record for the most points scored in a season - 490 and most rebounds in a season - 308.

Al Girone, Coach/Contributor (Class of 1948) (Posthumously)

Al from the time he was a young boy to the time of his death, was always busy with anything that had to do with school or ball games. That interest led him to teaching and coaching. At Southern Local Al coached all sports - football, basketball, baseball, and even cheerleading. Al also served on the Southern Local Board of Education and is honored every year with an award in his name given to a deserving girl and boy participating in basketball.

Brad Hart, Athlete (Class of 1981)

Brad received nine varsity letters in his high school career - three in football, four in track, and two in basketball. He received a number of accolades in all three sports but the ones Brad remembers most are for football and track. His senior year in football, he was named All County 1st Team Offensive, Evening Review All Area, participated in the the Penn-Ohio State Line All Star Classic. In track, Brad set a new school record in the long jump at the district track meet in Cleveland his senior year.

Tom Leek, Contributor (Class of 1940) (Posthumously)

Tom participated in football and basketball at Salineville High School. Tom was a member of the 1939-40 basketball team that won the Columbiana County Class B Championship. Tom returned to Salinville to teach and coach. Tom was the coach of the Salineville Six Man football team that won the Eastern Ohio Championship. Tom also coached the team that won the Columbiana County Class B Championship. Tom is being honored for numbers other contributions he made to Salineville - Southern Local as teacher, principal, and superintendent.

Bill Pitts, Contributor (Class of 1979)

Bill has coached and been athletic director for the Little Indians football program. He has led the Southern Local Athletic Boosters for six years. Bill has served on the Southern Local Alumni Board and he is currently in his second term as a Southern Local Board of Education member.

Mike Sargent, Athlete (Class of 1977)

Mike participated in football, basketball, and baseball. As quarterback at Southern Local, he accounted for 2800 yards passing and running. Mike's win loss record was 21-5 including a TCL Championship. Mike received all state recognition in football.

Sara Leek Smith, Contributor (Class of 1949)

Sara returned to Salineville to teach in 1961. She spent 30 years here teaching various levels, but it was in physical education she made her mark for Southern Local athletics. Sara's philosophy went along with the introduction of organized girl's sports - she believed that if girls were taught the skills, they would participate in interscholastic sports. She taught the fundamentals and numbers of high school coaches reaped the benefits.
